Women’s Institute

Pontyates Women’s Institute meet on the first Thursday of every month at 7.00pm. Anyone from the age of 16 years upwards is very welcome to come along.

We have monthly meetings where we socialise and have a variety of speakers. Our activities are many and varied.From crafts, treasure hunts, sports, quizzes, walks and visits to interesting places. We also campaign on very important issues to improve life for all. Cost is £30.00 per annum.

Other activities include meeting up with other Women’s Institutes for fun evenings.

The Women’s Institute was brought from Stoney Creek, Canada. The first British WI was formed in 1915 in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Pontyates WI was formed in 1959 and has held its meetings in Pontyates Miners’ Welfare Hall ever since then.
